Entertainment's AI trust problem is a communication problem
Leaders from Netflix, Lionsgate, Google, Hasbro and Adobe agree: stop saying AI as if it were one thing. Be specific, and the debate moves on to adopting it well.
The entertainment industry's AI trust problem isn't about AI. It's about how we talk about it.
At Variety's Entertainment & Technology Summit, leaders from Netflix, Lionsgate, Google, Hasbro and Adobe made the same point: stop saying AI as if it were one thing, and separate the assistive from the corrective from the generative.
It's good to see the industry lining up behind this, as most of what is being rolled out is about augmenting what people can do rather than replacing them. When all of it is called AI, creatives hear the apocalyptic version. I see it as a communication problem, and one that can be fixed.
Once you're specific about what a tool does and whose work it supports, the conversation moves on from whether to use AI to how to adopt it well. That's the debate the industry needs to be having.
